The Helfert Nunatak is a distinctive nunatak in the West Antarctic Ellsworthland . In the Sentinel Range of the Ellsworth Mountains, it rises 24 km west of Mount Sharp .
He was discovered and visited by the so-called Marie Byrd Land Traverse Party , a team mainly to explore the Marie Byrd Land between 1957 and 1958. This named the Nunatak after Norbert Fred Helfert (1935–1974), who worked as a meteorologist on the 1957 Byrd station was operating.
