Helga Kämpf-Jansen

Helga Kämpf-Jansen (born October 4, 1939 in Kassel ; † February 19, 2011 there ) was a German educator, scientist and artist.

Life

She took a degree at the Pedagogical Institute in Weilburg. After the state examination, she was a teacher in Frankfurt am Main. In 1968 she was brought to the new Institute for Art Education at the Justus Liebig University in Gießen as a pedagogical assistant, where she helped shape the position of visual communication . From 1992 to 2005 she worked in the art department of the Faculty of Cultural Studies at the University of Paderborn.

For six years she was a member of the working group for the development of the Hessian framework guidelines "Art". From this group she became co-editor of the journal Kunst + Studium in 1976 together with Johannes Eucker and Hermann Hinkel and remained so until 1990. As a university teacher, artist and scientist, she designed projects and impulses to change the social reality of art. The project “Art in Prison”, which she headed from 1983 until her own appointment as professor for art and didactics at the University of Paderborn in 1992, posed a challenge. In 1987 she did her doctorate with Gunter Otto in parallel with these tasks . In Paderborn in 2000/2001, Helga Kämpf-Jansen profiled her work on art education with the term “Aesthetic Research” as an independent specialist concept.

The innovative concept of "Aesthetic Research" developed by Helga Kämpf-Jansen combined pre-scientific procedures based on everyday experience with the artistic strategies of contemporary art and scientific methods. Traditionally separate teaching areas such as artistic practice, theories of art and everyday aesthetics were brought together in this concept. They networked complex forms of action, thinking and knowledge with new art didactic methods. Kämpf-Jansen combined the task of modern teaching for the students with the claim to open up expanded spaces in thinking and acting. She attached great importance to the current art concepts and artistic strategies, which in their complexity and multi-mediality correspond to the aesthetic and intellectual potential of the time.
