Helga Tiemann
Helga Tiemann (born October 11, 1917 in Remscheid ; † October 13, 2008 in Cologne ) was a German painter of traditional realism and a sculptor . For decades she became the portraitist of important contemporaries from politics, business and culture in what was then the federal capital of Bonn.
Live and act
The fateful life of Helga Tiemann between the bombing war in Berlin and the rebuilding after the fall of 1945 in the Rhineland is also reflected in the artistic work. After graduating from high school, Helga Tiemann studied painting and figurative drawing at the Cologne factory schools with Prof. Seuffert and Meyer and then moved to the Berlin University of the Arts . After the end of World War II , she mainly portrayed Russian soldiers and officers.
In Cologne, where her parents also lived, she created the advertising poster for Persil with the white lady. On behalf of the company Ford Germany, she created a portrait of the then Federal President Theodor Heuss . After this success she portrayed many personalities, for example Walter Scheel , Aenne Burda , Ronald Reagan , Hermann Josef Abs and others.
She also created portraits of children, landscapes, horses, among other things, which she worked out as pastels, ink and red chalk drawings as well as etchings and lithographs. The international art edition Marco (Bonn-Paris) was the most important mediator.
The painter of the Bonn society
In the federal capital Bonn, Helga Tiemann has been part of society since Konrad Adenauer . She portrayed the art-loving Chancellor several times. This gave her access to other “highest circles”. Known with Mildred Scheel , she supported the German Cancer Aid, which was founded by the wife of the then Federal President, with art campaigns. Also friends with Adenauer's head of protocol, Erica Pappritz , she became the “painter of Bonn society” during the “economic boom” of the Federal Republic. Diplomats from many countries and the Bavarian Prime Minister Franz Josef Strauss were also among their models.
Retirement work
Helga Tiemann's artistic achievements and a considerable amount of old work were accompanied by numerous exhibitions at home and abroad as well as by honors. On the occasion of her 80th birthday, the Museum Europäische Kunst in Nörvenich organized a large exhibition in 1997.
At the ripe old age of 87 she created a life-size sculpture by Konrad Adenauer , which was inaugurated on April 19, 2005 on Adenauerplatz in Berlin-Charlottenburg by the then CDU chairwoman and later Chancellor Angela Merkel .
