Helge Bathelt

Helge Joachim Bathelt (* 27. May 1948 in Sindelfingen ) is a German art historian , humanities and social scientists , former head of the Adult Education Center Herrenberg and urban gallery Herrenberg, and Chairman of the European Cultural Community Association

Career

Bathelt was born the son of the lawyer Ernst Bathelt and the natural scientist Lydia Bathelt (née Grimm). From 1958 to 1966, Bathelt attended the Zeppelin-Gymnasium Stuttgart. After graduating from high school and completing his military service, he studied political science, history and German at the University of Tübingen and art history in Vienna from 1967 to 1975 . At the same time he worked as a tutor at the Institute for Political Science from 1972 to 1975 and as a freelancer at the Franco-German Institute in Ludwigsburg. Bathelt wrote his master's thesis in 1973 in Tübingen. The theme of the work was the Vormärz , an epoch that describes the period before the March Revolution of 1848/49. Bathelt examined the pre-March period taking into account art and culture. At the same time, Bathelt married the neurologist and medical director Monika Roth.

Early years

In 1975 he received his doctorate on the subject of scientific methodology, application of social science methods to historical research . At the same time, Bathelt directed the Herrenberg Adult Education Center.

From 1978 to 1985 Bathelt was chairman of the adult education center in the Middle Neckar West region. As a member of the jury for the first Jerg Ratgeb Prize , Bathelt accepted HAP Grieshaber's invitation. The Jerg-Ratgeb-Prize "for freedom of art and for non-violence in the struggle for more humanity" was founded by HAP Grieshaber and Rolf Szymanski and was the first to be awarded in 1977 to the sculptor Rudolf Hoflehner .

In 1978 Bathelt began to teach at the University of Tübingen and at the University of Social Sciences in Esslingen.

From 1987 to 1993 he was chairman of the Association of the Free Academy for Art and Design Baden-Württemberg. In 1988 Bathelt began working with MBArt Stuttgart and their owner Marlis Breitling. In 1993/94 he was chairman of the Association of Freelance Sculptors Württemberg. In 1994 he was awarded the title of professor by Science Minister Klaus von Trotha.

From 1994 to 2000 Bathelt was the curator of the national and international art exhibition at Volksbank Herrenberg. 1997 to 1999 he held the chairmanship of the Free Art School Stuttgart (FKS) eV, the Academy for Art and Design and organized a. a. the 50th anniversary of the FKS in the Kunstverein building in Stuttgart in the department for art, science and economy (keynote speaker Ernst Fuchs / Vienna). In 2000 Bathelt started working with the ALGalerie Stuttgart / Budapest. Subsequently, from 2001 to 2003 he was curator of the EigenArt sculpture show in the district of Böblingen and accompanied exhibition projects at the same time. In 2003 Bathelt was curator of the sculpture symposium in Ehningen.

Late years

In 2007 Bathelt founded the Europäische Kulturgemeinschaft e. V., which he is chairman to this day. In 2011 he was chairman of the Kunsthöfle gallery in Bad Cannstatt. In 2014 Bathelt founded the Institute for Communal Cultural Management and began working with the Cornelia Walter Gallery in Munich. In 2015, the inauguration of the Jerg-Ratgeb Sculpture Trail in Herrenberg followed.

Bathelt is still active as a tour guide with a focus on Tuscany, Umbria, Piedmont, Andalusia, Budapest, Prague and gives laudations all over Germany. His wife Monika Bathelt-Roth died in 2015 after a twenty-three year illness. The couple has two grown children.
