Virginia Patton

Virginia Ann Patton (born June 25, 1925 in Cleveland , Ohio ) is an American actress and entrepreneur whose film career lasted from 1943 to 1949. Her best-known role is that of Ruth Bailey in Frank Capras Isn't Life Beautiful? from 1946. Patton starred in a total of 15 films.

Life

Virginia Ann Patton was born on June 25, 1925 in Cleveland and grew up in Portland . Her uncle was the American General George S. Patton . She graduated from Jefferson High School before moving to Los Angeles to attend the University of Southern California .

During her studies, Patton applied to several auditions from film studios. Before that, she was involved in several plays, working with William C. de Mille , among others . Her first small film role was in Thank Your Lucky Stars in 1943 . Patton made her first major film appearance in 1944 as Carrie Lou in Janie . In the same year she was one of the numerous actors who had a brief appearance in the star- studded musical comedy Hollywood Canteen .

Patton played her best-known role in 1946 as Ruth Bailey in Isn't Life Beautiful? alongside James Stewart and her film partner Todd Karns . She also played the leading role in the 1948 Western Black Eagle . In her six-year career, Patton made a total of 15 films. In 1949 she retired from her work as an actress.

Virginia Patton was married to Cruse W. Moss from 1949 until his death in 2018. After their wedding, she gave up acting and moved with her husband to Ann Arbor to devote themselves to her family in the future. She later attended the University of Michigan and became president of the investment company she founded, The Patton Corporation. Patton continues to give interviews about her time as an actress. Patton is believed to be the last living adult actress from Isn't Life Beautiful? ( Karolyn Grimes , among others, still lives from the child actors ).

Even in old age, Virginia Patton still took part in events about Isn't life beautiful? Part. In December 2012 she was the guest of honor at a screening of the film at the Penn Theater in Plymouth (Michigan) . For her role as Ruth Bailey , Patton received the first Spirit of Christmases Past, Present & Future Award in October 2013 , which has been presented annually by the St. Nicholas Institute in Michigan since then .
