Helge Jörns

Helge Jörns (born March 18, 1941 in Mannheim ) is a German composer and music teacher.

Life

The son of the composer Helmuth Jörns spent his childhood and early youth in Mannheim. From 1956 until his Abitur in 1962, he worked as an organist and cantor in Alsfeld, Hesse . Until 1966 he studied composition and conducting at the Northwest German Music Academy in Detmold and at the Tonmeisterinstitut with the main instrumental subjects piano and cello. In 1966 he moved to Berlin and studied musicology at the Technical University there until 1971 .

From 1966 to 1997 he was the first sound engineer at RIAS Berlin with over 300 records and CD productions and from 1967 to 1971 as a music reviewer for the daily newspaper DIE WELT .

From 1968 to 1982 Jörns played as a harpsichordist in the Amati Ensemble Berlin and in 1971 began teaching composition and counterpoint as the successor to Ernst Pepping at the church music school of the Evangelical Johannis Foundation in Berlin-Spandau . In 1978 he moved to the Bischöfliche Kirchenmusikhochschule Berlin (Department of Church Music of the Archdiocese of Berlin) as a lecturer for composition and composition, a position he held until 1988. Visiting professorships have also taken him to Melbourne , Sydney , Helsinki , Istanbul and Ankara .

From 1994 to 1997 he was the first sound engineer at DeutschlandRadio Berlin and has since devoted himself exclusively to composing.
