Hellmut Schmalz

Hellmut Schmalz (born May 2, 1905 in Göttingen ; † December 20, 1982 in Kassel ) was a German politician ( KPD , SPD ), member of the Lower Saxony state parliament , member of the appointee Lower Saxony state parliament and member of the appointee Hanover state parliament .

Life

After attending primary school, Hellmut Schmalz completed an apprenticeship in the commercial area. He worked as a commercial clerk, as an assistant in a dairy, as a pipelayer in civil engineering and as a shaft master . In 1925 and 1926 he attended the Philosophical-Political Academy initiated by Leonard Nelson . He devoted himself to agricultural policy and became a clerk in the KPD for this topic. He was arrested several times for political reasons, including before 1933. In 1924 Schmalz joined the SPD, two years later he became a member of the KPD, and in 1950 he returned to the SPD.

From August 23, 1946 to October 29, 1946 he was a member of the appointed Hanover state parliament, where he chaired the KPD parliamentary group and chaired the committee for food, agriculture and forestry. From December 9, 1946 to March 28, 1947 he worked as a member of the appointed Lower Saxony State Parliament, where he also took over the chairmanship of the parliamentary group and the chairmanship of the Committee on Food, Agriculture and Forests.

From April 20, 1947 to January 2, 1950 he was a member of the Lower Saxony State Parliament (1st electoral term) and from May 6, 1951 to May 5, 1955, a member of the 2nd electoral term. Here, too, he was chairman of the parliamentary group of the KPD (April 20, 1947 to January 2, 1950) and chairman of the committee for food, agriculture and forestry (June 17, 1947 to January 2, 1950 and June 13, 1951 to May 5, 1955 ).

From 1959 to 1968 he was federal chairman of the horticultural, agricultural and forestry union and then president of the European Agricultural Workers' Federation.
