Helmut Ackermann

Helmut Ackermann (born July 9, 1936 in Memmingen ; † December 6, 2017 there ) was a German graphic artist and painter .

Life

Helmut Ackermann was born on July 9, 1936 in Memmingen, Upper Swabia . From 1956 to 1963 he studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich with Richard Seewald and Hermann Kaspar . He received the cultural award of his native city in 1979. He traveled to Andalusia, Italy, France and Greece. From 1964, Ackermann worked as an illustrator in works of world literature, such as von Grimmelshausen, Hesse, Kafka and Wilder for publishers all over the world. His style is traditional and influenced by Seewald. He has a variable conception with partly expressionistic tendencies.

Ackermann worked for bibliophile magazines, which he illustrated artistically. Calendar graphics and portfolio graphics , especially for Visel-Verlag and Universe Books New York, as well as drawings, graphics and paintings are among his other works, with landscape and city motifs from the Lower Rhine particularly prominent.

Works

Ackermann's works can be found in diverse forms in public spaces, especially in his hometown of Memmingen. Below is a fountain on Schmiedplatz and the equestrian statue of Welf VI. in the Fuggergarten. Etchings have been published by Visel-Verlag and woodcuts in New York. He also published several books with graphics.
