Helmut Günther (born June 10, 1953 in Radstadt ) is an Austrian civil servant and politician ( FPÖ ). From 1991 to 2005 and from 2008 to 2015 he was a member of the Vienna State Parliament and City Council .

education and profession

Helmut Günther attended elementary and secondary school in Radstadt from 1959 to 1967 and then the music-pedagogical secondary school in Radstadt. After graduating from high school in 1971, Günther studied law at the University of Salzburg from 1971 and received the academic degree Magister juris in 1977 . In 1980 he received his doctorate in law .

Günther completed his court year at the Radstadt District Court from 1977 to 1978 and was a contract employee and civil servant in the Ministry of Education between 1978 and 1983. From 1983 to 1984 he worked as the club director of the Salzburg FPÖ state parliament club and from 1984 to 1987 he was deputy head of the cabinet of Minister of Commerce Norbert Steger . From 1984 to 2002 he was department head in the Ministry of Commerce and Economy and from 2002 to 2003 department head for personnel and support matters in the Ministry of Social Affairs. Through the participation of the FPÖ in the government, Günther received the position of presidential chief in the Ministry of Social Affairs, while his predecessor, who was close to the SPÖ, was sent into early retirement. Günther held this office until 2008, and since February 28, 2008 he has been Managing Director of AEI, Agency for European Integration and Economic Development.

Günther was a member of the regional party leadership of the FPÖ Salzburg from 1976 to 1983 and has been a member of the regional party leadership of the FPÖ Vienna since 1984. He has also been a member of the federal party leadership since 1991. He has also been a co-opted member of the regional party executive committee of the FPÖ Vienna since 1992. Günther was district councilor in Vienna- Hernals from 1987 to 1991 and district party chairman of the Hietzinger Freiheitlichen between 1996 and 2006 .

Günther was a member of the Vienna State Parliament and a member of the City Council of Vienna from 1991 to 2005. After Kurth-Bodo Blind left, Günther moved again to the Vienna State Parliament and City Council on June 25, 2008.

Günther has been married since 1983.
