Helmut Hauptmann (writer)
Helmut Hauptmann (born March 12, 1928 in Berlin ) is a German writer who mainly worked in the GDR .
Life
Helmut Hauptmann comes from a working class family. In the final phase of the Second World War 1944-45 he served as an Air Force auxiliary in Berlin and fell in Schleswig-Holstein in captivity . After graduating from high school , he worked for the magistrate of Greater Berlin . He has lived in Berlin as an editor , journalist and writer since the early 1950s .
Helmut Hauptmann is the author of narrative works that reflect the ideological optimism of the early GDR , as well as of reports that deal with the author's travel experiences in various countries of the Eastern Bloc .
Helmut Hauptmann had been a member of the GDR Writers' Association since 1956 and of the GDR PEN Center since 1972 .
He received the following awards:
- 1958 the Erich Weinert Medal
 - 1960 the Heinrich Mann Prize
 - 1964 the art prize of the FDGB
 - 1969 the Heinrich Heine Prize from the Ministry of Culture of the GDR
 - 1988 the Order Banner of Labor Stage I.
