Helmut Jahn (born November 20, 1936 in Budapest , † March 16, 2013 in Gelnhausen ) was a freelance German painter and representative of abstract expressionism .

Life

Jahn studied at the Werkkunstschule Wiesbaden and worked, initially as a graphic artist, since the 1980s as a freelance painter. He lived and worked in Bad Orb since 1998 and lived in the smallest house in Hesse (Kirchgasse 23). The Spessart Clinic made a spacious studio available to him in the Willeminenhaus.

He had exhibitions at home and abroad and was best known for his large-format abstract-expressionist pictures, including the monumental work Augengarten (7 × 32 meters), which was shown on the occasion of the Hanau State Garden Show in 2002 and later also at Frankfurt Central Station.

In 2006, on the initiative of the clinic manager Edmund Fröhlich, on the occasion of the 70th birthday, a double exhibition Helmut Jahn ... the pictures with a retrospective in Bad Orb and Perspektiven in Hanau took place, and the book Helmut Jahn was published. The pictures .

In 2014, on the initiative of his friends and with the support of the city of Bad Orb, the Helmut Jahn Museum was opened with a permanent presentation of its exhibits.
