Helmut Kriegel

Helmut Kriegel (born May 31, 1923 in Hainewalde ) is a former German trade unionist . He was chairman of the Halle district board of the Free German Trade Union Federation (FDGB).

Life

Kriegel, the son of a stonemason , attended elementary and vocational school and completed an apprenticeship as a machine fitter. He had to do military service in the Wehrmacht and in 1945 was taken prisoner by the British .

In 1946 Kriegel joined the Socialist Unity Party of Germany (SED). In 1952/53 he studied at the trade union college "Fritz Heckert" in Bernau near Berlin . From 1954 he acted as deputy chairman, from 1955 to 1962 as chairman of the FDGB district committee in Halle. From 1955 he was a candidate and from 1959 to 1963 he was a member of the federal executive committee of the FDGB.

From 1958 to 1963 Kriegel was a member of the Halle district assembly .
