Richard Pieper

Richard Pieper (born April 9, 1923 in Hanover ; † August 6, 1985 in Halle (Saale) ) was a German trade unionist ( FDGB ) and politician ( SED ). He was chairman of the FDGB district committee in Halle .

Life

Pieper, the son of a construction worker, attended elementary school and learned the trade of bricklayer . He then worked in the profession. In 1942 he was drafted into the Wehrmacht . Between 1943 and 1948 he was an Allied prisoner of war in North Africa, the USA and France .

After his return in 1948, he worked as a bricklayer again in Merseburg . In 1951/52 he studied at the Institute for Vocational School Teacher Training in Halle. He then worked from 1952 to 1960 as a vocational school teacher in Merseburg, Teuchern and at the VEB Leuna-Werke "Walter Ulbricht" vocational school . In 1951 he became a member of the SED. From 1959 to 1961 he was department head at the Leuna-Werke "Walter Ulbricht" company academy , and from 1961 to 1963 he was secretary of the basic SED organization at the Technical University of Chemistry in Leuna-Merseburg . Between 1963 and 1967 he worked as secretary or head of the Ideological Commission of the SED district leadership in Leuna.

From 1967 to 1971 he acted as chairman of the Leuna district board of the chemical, glass and ceramic union. From May 10, 1968 (7th FDGB Congress) to April 22, 1981 he was a member of the Presidium of the FDGB Federal Executive Board. From 1971 to December 22, 1980 he was chairman of the FDGB district board in Halle and member of the secretariat of the SED district leadership in Halle. He resigned for health reasons.

He worked for a short time as the district director of the state insurance company in Halle and retired early. Pieper died after a long and serious illness at the age of 62 and was buried in the cemetery in Halle-Dölau .
