Helmut Rahner (born March 29, 1971 in Weingarts ) is a German former football player .
Career
The 1.81 m tall defender, also known as Helmut "Alu" Rahner, began his career in the youth team of his home club DJK Weingarts .
Via the B and A youth teams of 1. FC Nürnberg , he came to Blau-Weiß 90 Berlin as a young talent in 1990 . Only one year later he moved to Bayer 05 Uerdingen , where he was transferred together with Thomas Adler and Alexander Kutschera . With this club, Rahner rose to the first Bundesliga. In the next few years he developed into a regular player in central defense under coach Friedhelm Funkel . Rahner was known for his hard, rustic style of playing, which he himself described as "honest work". In Krefeld, fans still go into raptures when people speak of "Helle" Rahner. In 1993, Rahner took part in the military world championship in Morocco with the Bundeswehr national team, which took third place.
In 1996/97 he moved to FC Kilmarnock during the season in Scotland and played for a short time in Italy for Reggina Calcio . However, it remained with these two short international interludes and Helmut Rahner continued his career at 1. FC Nürnberg, Prussia Münster and Rot-Weiss Essen . Due to various sports injuries and an ankle bacterial infection as a result of an operation, he had to end his active career in 2003 and became a sports disabled person. From 2004 to June 2012 Rahner was in the youth team of 1. FC Nürnberg for the A and B youth.
For the 2013/14 season, Rahner took over the coaching position at the national division TSV Nürnberg-Buch, which he held until 2016. Since 2017, the football teacher has been training SV Schwaig with Rahner who was promoted to the regional league as champions of the Northern District League in the 2018/2019 season. In November 2017, Helmut Rahner almost started as the sporting director of the Würzburger Kickers' junior performance center, but resigned from his post a few weeks later.
