Helmut Ramm

Helmut Ramm (born March 9, 1926 ; † November 22, 2018 ) was a German archivist who was involved in building archives in the area of ​​local councils in the GDR and in collaborating with the archivists of the districts, cities and companies in the Karl district -Marx-Stadt earned special merits.

Life

After attending school, Helmut Ramm started training as a teacher and in 1948 became a member of the Socialist Unity Party of Germany . From August 1949 he was employed as an administrative archivist at the Chemnitz District Council (from 1953 Karl-Marx-Stadt). After five years of practical work, the council of the Karl-Marx-Stadt district made him head of the newly formed archive department in August 1954, which made him responsible for the municipal and state company archives of the entire populous GDR district of Karl-Marx-Stadt . He made up for the lack of specialist training by qualifying as a state-certified archivist. He completed his distance learning course at the "Franz Mehring" archive school in Potsdam in 1960 with distinction. He became a member of several specialist commissions of the State Archives Administration of the GDR and, in 1968, chairman of the specialist committee on local history / local history of the GDR cultural association .

With the dissolution of the Karl-Marx-Stadt district, renamed Chemnitz again in 1990, Helmut Ramm retired. Most recently, his official title was Archival Sector Head at the Karl-Marx-Stadt District Council .
