Helmut Reinicke

Helmut Reinicke (born August 4, 1941 ; † October 22, 2018 ) was a German sociologist and philosopher .

Life

Reinicke studied from 1961 first three semesters of sociology at the Philipps University of Marburg and then two semesters of critical theory at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main . He interrupted his studies to study at San Francisco State College from 1963 . After the College Reinicke had awarded the Bachelor of Arts in the fall of 1964 , he traveled to the state of Mississippi .

In the summer semester of 1965 Reinicke returned to Germany to continue his studies with Adorno and Horkheimer . Reinicke met the philosopher Alfred Schmidt for the first time in Frankfurt .

In 1972 Reinicke received his doctorate in philosophy from the University of Frankfurt . There he worked as a research assistant in the social sciences department.

Reinicke then taught at the University of Flensburg until his retirement .

Memberships

During his stay in the United States, Reinicke became a member of the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC), which was part of the civil rights movement , in 1964 . After returning from the USA, he joined the Socialist German Student Union (SDS) in the summer of 1965 . Reinicke was one of the active members of the SDS.
