Helmut Schlaad (born August 4, 1967 in Bad Kreuznach ) is a German chemist and university professor.

Life

Helmut Schlaad studied chemistry at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz and received his diploma in 1993. In 1997 he received his doctorate with studies on the mechanism of anionic polymerization of methacrylates in the group of Axel HE Müller . In 1998 he went to the University of Massachusetts Lowell as a postdoctoral fellow to work with Rudolf Faust on cationic polymerizations of vinyl monomers. From 1999 he worked as a group leader at the Max Planck Institute for Colloids and Interfaces and completed his habilitation in 2004 (mentor: Markus Antonietti ) in the scientific discipline of physical chemistry . In 2014 he accepted the position of professor for polymer chemistry at the University of Potsdam .

His scientific interest is:

  • Development of new controlled polymerization techniques and sustainable ("green") polymerization processes
  • Ring-opening polymerization of heterocycles
  • Modification of polymers
  • Bio-based polymers from renewable, non-fossil sources
  • Investigation of complex structure formation processes in bio-inspired (co) polymers
