Helmut Stegmann (journalist)

Helmut Stegmann (* 1938 ; † March 1997 in Seeshaupt ) was a German journalist.

Life

Stegmann graduated from the German School of Journalism and then spent seven years as a sports journalist at Münchner Merkur . With the establishment of the tz offshoot in 1968, he moved to the new tabloid as head of department and became its editor-in-chief in 1973. He shared the post at times with Hans Riehl .

For many years he was also chairman of the Münchner Sportpresse association and a member of the sports council of the city of Munich and the association of German sports journalists . For 25 years he taught at the German School of Journalism and suspended the Helmut Stegmann scholarship for the school . After his death in 1999, the family donated the Helmut Stegmann Prize, endowed with 5,000 euros annually .
