Helmut Sundhaußen

Helmut Sundhaußen (born September 21, 1935 in Düsseldorf ; † March 25, 2018 in Düsseldorf) was a German painter, sculptor and graphic artist and representative of Concrete Art . In addition, he occasionally put his artistic focus on photographs .

Life

From 1957 to 1962 Helmut Sundhaußen studied painting at the Art Academy in Düsseldorf under Bruno Goller , whose master class he became. The Villa Romana Prize enabled him to spend nine months in Florence. 1967–1968 he taught for a year as a guest lecturer at the Werkkunstschule Krefeld . This was followed in 1970 by a scholarship for a one-year stay at the Cite Internationale des Arts in Paris. Then, in 1971, Sundhaußen became a lecturer in painting at the Folkwang University and later in the Department of Design and Art Education at the University of Essen . Since 1973 he has held the title of professor .

Sundhaußen experimented with photographic work in the 1980s. Specific works continued to emerge. He was a member of the Siam Society Bangkok and the German Society for Nature and Ethnology of East Asia (OAG) in Tokyo, as well as in the West German Artists Association . He worked regularly in Thailand and Japan, as well as in Brazil and the USA. He also traveled to Indonesia, Cambodia, Vietnam, China, Tibet, Italy and Spain. Helmut Sundhaußen has been shown in numerous exhibitions at home and abroad.

A painting by Sundhaußen from the Museum Baden was used for catalog recordings in 2010 by the textile mail order company Walbusch Walter Busch . It acted as a backdrop for the models.
