Helmut Traumarke (born March 30, 1927 in Leipzig ; † June 3, 2003 in Dresden ) was a German architect and university professor .

Life

Born in Leipzig, he studied architecture in Weimar from 1946 and wrote his diploma thesis in 1951 on the subject of rebuilding the city center of Dresden . From 1951 to 1958 he worked as an assistant to Heinrich Rettig and Leopold Wiel at the Technical University of Dresden , where he mainly dealt with work and building design. In 1955 , Trauschein received his doctorate with a thesis on kindergartens and worked as a lecturer in freehand drawing from 1958. In 1961 he qualified as a professor for institutions for children and young people and in 1962 became professor for elementary design and freehand drawing.

From 1964 to 1989 he was a member of the UIA group for school and cultural buildings. From 1966 Trauschein worked as a professor with a full teaching assignment. From 1965 to 1970 he was the first director of the architecture section. From 1969 he was full professor for residential and social buildings at the TU Dresden. In 1970 he was made a correct member of the Building Academy .

From 1981 to 1988 he was visiting professor in Iraq and Syria. After the fall of the Wall , he founded the office of the independent architects ARCHITRAV in 1991. In 1992 he retired and was appointed to the German Academy for Urban Development and Regional Planning . From 1993 to 1997 he was President of the Saxony Chamber of Architects. In 1996 he was appointed to the Saxon Academy of the Arts and since December 2002 has been an honorary member of the Association of German Architects .
