Helmut Wilkens

Helmut Wilkens (born May 25, 1926 in Hanover ; † August 18, 2009 there ) was a German veterinary anatomist .

Life

Wilkens studied veterinary medicine at the Veterinary University of Hanover and received his doctorate there in 1951 to Dr. med. vet. After a brief activity in the cattle practice, he began working at the anatomical institute of the University of Veterinary Medicine in Hanover in 1953, where he completed his habilitation and was appointed full professor in 1965. From 1965 until his retirement in 1991 he was director of the Anatomical Institute. From 1983 to 1985 he was rector of the University of Veterinary Medicine in Hanover.

Wilken's main areas of research were the beef claw and the lymphatic system .

Wilkens was the author of several standard works on animal anatomy. Together with Horst Schebitz, he published the "Atlas of the X-ray anatomy of the horse" and the "Atlas of radiographic anatomy of the dog and cat" and was a co-author of Nickel / Schummer / Seiferle.
