August von Rosthorn
August Edler von Rosthorn (born January 6, 1789 in Vienna , † November 25, 1843 Oed in Lower Austria) was an Austrian industrialist.
Life
August von Rosthorn was a member of the Rosthorn industrial family as the son of Matthaus Rawsthorne, who was brought to Austria in the first generation. From 1813 he initially headed the company's rolling mill in Fahrafeld and from 1816 also the sheet metal and wire factory in Oed in the Piestingtal. Under him, the Prävali zinc smelter was acquired in 1823 in order to be able to cover its own zinc needs. He obtained the lignite from the mine in Liescha, which he bought together with his brother Franz von Rosthorn . In 1826 he took over the management of the iron and steel works in Wolfsberg and introduced numerous innovations there, such as refining with coal. Between 1832 and 1835 he built a large puddle mill in Prävali and a rolling mill in Frantschach .
In 1832, on the initiative of the two brothers, Wolfsberger AG was founded and he also took over management. In 1832 and 1833 he also went on a study trip to England and Belgium. He initially used this experience in Prävali and was thus able to be the first company in the Austrian Empire to produce railroad tracks . As early as 1827 the brothers parted with Wolfsberger AG. In 1844 Dickmann von Secherau initially joined the Rosthorn company as managing director and eventually became its owner.
Friedrich Gauermann has the foster daughter (Elisabeth née Kurtz) of August von Rosthorn and his wife Ottile von Rosthorn née. Müller married on November 25, 1838 in the parish of St. Josef ob der Laimgrube. Ottile was the godmother of 2 children of the Gauermann family (Ottilia 1839 and Augusta 1846) and died on March 15, 1878 in Vienna VI., Gumpendorferstraße 4 (she was buried at the parish cemetery in Penzing).
