Waldegg is located in the industrial district in Lower Austria on the B21 and Gutensteinerbahn . The area of ​​the market town covers 35.69 square kilometers. 79.79 percent of the area is forested.

The Piesting River flows through the market town of Waldegg.

history

Before the birth of Christ, the area was part of the Celtic Kingdom of Noricum and belonged to the surroundings of the Celtic hill settlement Burg on the Schwarzenbacher Burgberg .

Later under the Romans, today's Waldegg was then in the province of Pannonia .

According to the data of the 2001 census , 64.1% of the population are Roman Catholic and 2.9% Protestant . 18.8% are Muslims , 1.0% belong to Orthodox churches . 11.7% of the population have no religious denomination. With 18.8% Muslims , Waldegg was the Austrian municipality with the highest proportion of Muslims in 2011. This resulted from the industry based here. However, the share has steadily decreased in the following years, so that in 2007 it was only 11%.

Ober-Piesting

The Florianikreuz stands at the highest point of the Hetzental . It was inaugurated on May 8, 2004 for the patron saint of the fire brigades, Saint Florian and in memory of the largest documented forest fire in the Piestingtal from January 1 to 6, 1984, at the place where the fire started.

Waldegg

The Roman Catholic Parish church hl. Jakob d. Ä. - in an elevated position and surrounded by the old cemetery - is a baroque building (nave built in 1786; tower in 1792) with a Romanesque choir from the 15th century. The neo-Gothic high altar dates from 1899 and was made according to a design by F. Bail. The organ from 1908 was made by Franz Capek (1857–1938).

Wopfing

The Roman Catholic Parish Church of the Sorrowful Mother of God in Wopfing is a small hall church right on the thoroughfare. The short baroque nave was built in 1730/33. The retracted Gothic choir with pointed arched windows dates from the 14th century. At the end of the 19th century, the wooden roof turret was put on and arched windows were installed in the nave. The entrance porch was added in 1999/2000.

• Wopfinger building materials industry : The company's roots go back to 1810. The Wopfinger stone and lime works have been entered in the commercial register since 1911. It processes the limestone extracted in the company's own limestone quarry (annual extraction rate 1.1 million t) into finished plasters and cements.

There are three volunteer fire brigades, namely in Oed, Wopfing and Ober-Piesting.

FF Oed was the company fire brigade of the Stein Metallwarenfabrik until 1928 and was converted into a volunteer fire brigade.

Approx. from 1948 to 1964 there was a voluntary company fire brigade in the Zugmayer factory.
