Life

His main occupation was the owner of the metal goods factory G. Zugmayer and Sons, whose founder was his grandfather, and a commercial advisor. In 1872 he became a partner in the family company with his brother Karl.

He also explored his native Piestingtal in Lower Austria, where he made contributions to the stratigraphy and palaeontology ( brachiopods ) of the Rhaetian . In addition, he was also able to find and describe information (at a weir on the Kaisersteffel).

From 1874 he was a correspondent for the kk Imperial Geological Institute in Vienna. He was the first to describe the brachiopod genus Thecospira ZUGMAYER in 1882.

He was the father of the zoologist and explorer Erich Zugmayer .

Honors

The Triassic brachiopod genera Zugmayeria WAAGEN 1882 and Zugmayerella DAGYS 1963 were named after Heinrich Zugmayer .
