Erich Zugmayer

Erich Johann Georg Zugmayer (born May 16, 1879 in Vienna ; † February 12, 1938 there ) was an Austrian zoologist and explorer.

biography

He was born the son of the factory owner and palaeontologist Heinrich Zugmayer and Emilie Hoffmann.

Originally intended to join his father's company, he completed six classes at an eight-grade humanistic state high school and then a three-year course at the Vienna Commercial Academy . After a year of commercial internship in London , he studied zoology, geology and geography at the University of Heidelberg .

Zugmayer undertook a series of research trips: 1899 Norway , Lapland , 1902 Iceland , 1905 Caucasus , 1906 Turkestan , northwest Tibet and Kashmir , 1911–1916 Baluchistan . Since 1908 he was adjunct professor and department head at the Zoological State Collection in Munich .

Erich Zugmayer is the first to describe the scaly dragon fish Bathophilus vaillanti (ZUGMAYER 1911), Leptostomias gladiator (ZUGMAYER 1911) and Photonectes braueri (ZUGMAYER 1913).

Zugmayer died in Vienna on the night of February 12th to 13th, 1938.
