Helmuth Hertling

Helmuth Hertling (born April 24, 1891 in Berlin ; † March 7, 1942 there ) was a German marine biologist.

Life

As the son of a businessman, Hertling studied at the Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität zu Berlin and the Philipps-Universität Marburg . On July 15, 1919 he became a corps bow bearer of Hasso-Nassovia . As an inactive he finished his studies at the Georg-August-Universität Göttingen . She received her doctorate in 1919 as Dr. phil. Hertling turned to marine biology and in 1921 went to the Biological Institute Helgoland , whose custodian he was. In 1936 he received the ribbon of the Corps Hasso-Nassovia. In 1939 he moved to the Institute for Oceanography in Berlin as curator . As an associate professor , he died shortly before his 51st birthday after three years.

Hertling was a member of the Young German Order in 1924 and later known as an enthusiastic National Socialist. On May 1, 1933, he joined the NSDAP and held many offices there: party judge, district chief, training administrator, press officer of the local group and local branch manager of the NS student combat aid . In addition, he was head of the Reich Colonial Association on Heligoland. He was popular among his colleagues on Heligoland - all of them also National Socialists: "He was a very humorous and nice man who quoted Wilhelm Busch on all possible occasions ."
