Meinhard Hemp (born December 10, 1942 in Allenau , East Prussia ) was a football player in the GDR Oberliga , the top division of the GDR football association . He played there for SG Dynamo Dresden and won the first double from the GDR championship and FDGB cup in the club's history in 1971 . After his active career, he worked as a football coach.

Player career

youth

Initially, Hemp was a street footballer and a member of Motor Niedersedlitz's student team. In 1957 he switched to the youth team at SG Dynamo Dresden. His coach Kurt Kresse placed him at the Dresden soccer school in 1961, before a chemistry course had been rejected due to poor school leaving grades. A prerequisite for admission to the football school was the obligation to a three-year service with the People's Police . When the school closed after a year, Hemp had to serve as a patrolman.

League player

After Hemp had become eligible to play for the men's area, he was initially used in the 2nd team of Dynamo Dresden. In 1962 he fell ill with jaundice with the medical prognosis that he would never be able to play football again. However, Hemp overcame his illness and was on January 27, 1963 for the first time in the Oberligaelf. He was used on the 16th match day of the 1962/63 season in a 0-2 away defeat against SC Wismut Karl-Marx-Stadt as a left winger. It was his only first division appearance this season, after which Dynamo Dresden had to relegate. After a year, the team returned to the league, and in his second league season Hemp came on 16 missions, alternately as a left winger or center forward, but without scoring. The 1965/66 season represented a career break for him, because he only played six times in the major league. In the following season 1966/67 he completed the majority of the season point games for the first time with 21 missions, but now as a midfielder. In the summer of 1968 Dynamo rose again from the league, and Hemp spent another season in the second-rate GDR league . There he was one of the guarantors of immediate resurgence with 28 out of 30 possible missions. After the league season 1969/70 with 25 point games Hemp was able to celebrate his only big title with the championship at the end of the season 1970/71. He was only partially involved in winning the Dresden cup in 1971, as he was not used in the final.

In the year he won the title, Hemp was 28 years old. The following season 1971/72 was his last season in the league. He was only intended as a substitute player and was only used in seven games, only three times over the full 90 minutes. He played his last league game on January 29, 1972 in the 1: 2 away defeat by BFC Dynamo , when he was substituted on for the last time in the 52nd minute. Within seven league seasons he had made 102 first division games and six goals, and he had also been used in six European Cup games. Until 1974 he played in the 2nd team of Dynamo and then ended his career as an active football player with FSV Lokomotive Dresden in 1977.

Coaching career

From 1974 to 1979 Hemp, who had already trained as a Reichsbahn engineer during his time as a soccer player, completed a degree in sports teaching. Until 1987 he worked at FSV Lok Dresden as a junior coach and assistant coach for the 1st team. He then returned to Dynamo Dresden, where he also initially trained the youngsters. Later he trained the 2nd team. When Cor Pot , coach of the 1st team, was sacked in March 2001 , Hemp received a contract as interim head coach until the end of the season. Then Hemp was assistant coach under Christoph Franke until 2005 . He then worked as a youth coach at Dynamo Dresden until 2014, most recently he was in charge of the U-16 and U-17 teams. After a heart attack in 2013, the then 71-year-old resigned in February 2014.
