Hendrick Joseph Dillens
Hendrick Joseph Dillens (born December 20, 1812 in Ghent , † December 4, 1872 in Brussels ) was a Belgian genre painter, watercolorist and lithographer.
Hendrick Joseph Dillens was the older brother of Adolphe-Alexandre Dillens , father of the painter Albert Dillens and the sculptor Julien Dillens. He studied until 1830 at the Koninklijke Academie voor Schone Kunsten Gent under Jean Baptiste Lodewijk Maes-Canini (1794-1856). From 1843 to 1854 he lived in Antwerp and then settled in Brussels.
He painted genre and history pictures from everyday life in the Belgian province. He exhibited his works in 1859 and 1862 at the trade fair in Ghent, in 1854 and 1860 in Brussels, in 1861 and 1870 in Antwerp and at the Paris World Exhibition in 1867 .
He gave private painting lessons to Firmin Bouvy , Louis De Taeye, Adolphe-Alexandre Dillens and Jeannette Grover,
