Hendrik Prins (violinist)

Hendrik Prins (born September 12, 1881 in The Hague ; † July 26, 1943 in Auschwitz concentration camp ) was a German violinist of Dutch origin.

After taking violin lessons in The Hague, he became concertmaster at the Chemnitz Opera House and the orchestra of the Städtische Bühnen Hannover (1921). In 1922 he received German citizenship . He had already played as a violinist at the Bayreuth Festival in 1909. When he reapplied in 1924, he failed because of Karl Muck's anti-Semitism . In 1933 he was illegally forced to retire and finally dismissed in 1935. He lived on education. Since he did not feel like a Jew but a German , he did not leave the National Socialist German Reich . He was denounced , deported to Auschwitz and murdered there.
