Henk Mostert

Henk J. Mostert , also Hendrik Mostert (born January 24, 1925 in Rotterdam , † July 29, 2002 in Haarlem ), was the long-time President of the International Correspondence Chess Federation ( ICCF) .

Organizer in the ICCF

Mostert took over the office of tournament director in the ICCF from 1956. In 1966 he became an international arbitrator. The other stations: 1967 Vice President (until 1983), 1979 Honorary Member, 1983 Secretary General, 1984 Bertl von Massow Medal of Merit in gold and silver. From 1987 to 1996 he was president. After his resignation for health reasons, he was appointed Honorary President of the ICCF.

Organizer at NBC

In November 1966 Mostert founded the Dutch correspondence chess association NBC (Nederlandse Bond van Correspondentieschakers) together with Dick Smit , Henk Sarink and Barthold Perfors . Here he worked as a tournament director for around 20 years. Great services are attributed to him for the rise of Dutch correspondence chess. In 1985 the Queen of the Netherlands honored him with the Golden Badge of Honor in the Order of Oranje Nassau for his services to national and international chess .

Active player

From 1942 Mostert took part in long-distance tournaments. In this and the following year he participated in the Dutch championship. In 1946 he played for the Netherlands at the first correspondence chess Olympiad on board two. In the early 1960s he lived in Oudorp near Alkmaar . He played Nahschach in the Alkmaar Chess Club VVV. At the same time he took part in European distance tournaments and the 5th Chess Olympiad. In the Dutch correspondence chess championship in 1965/66, however, he finished last. From 1966 he found no time to play correspondence chess because of his activities in NBC.

Private

Mostert was an insurance salesman by profession. He was married to Johanna Antonia Mertens (born October 22, 1922, † March 18, 1990).
