Henning Höppe (born October 7, 1972 in Nuremberg ) is a German chemist .

Life

Henning Alfred Höppe passed his A-levels at the Rottmayr-Gymnasium Laufen in 1992 and began studying chemistry at the University of Bayreuth after completing his military service in 1993 . He completed his dissertation on phosphors based on europium- doped nitridosilicates and oxonitridosilicates as well as carbidonitridosilicates in 2003 with Wolfgang Schnick at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich .

As a postdoctoral fellow he went to the University of Oxford in the group of Professor Malcolm LH Green, where he worked on carbon nanotubes. His habilitation in inorganic chemistry took place in 2010 at the Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg in his current main area of ​​work.

In 2010, Höppe accepted a professorship for solid-state chemistry and materials science at the University of Augsburg .

Henning Höppe is also politically involved in the SPD's DL21 forum .

research

Höppe's working group conducts research in solid-state chemistry and materials science on novel phosphors for optical applications, for example in phosphor-converted (pc) light-emitting diodes . The working group is particularly interested in phosphates and related so-called silicate-analogous compounds as host structures that contain tetrahedral building blocks. These usually contain alkaline earth metals or lanthanoids , which are doped with the activators of interest such as rare earth metals . Since 2012, the working group has been investigating new classes of compounds such as the so-called borosulfates or boratosulfates, and more recently (since 2017) also fluorooxoborates, which are particularly interesting for non-linear optical properties . These are also among the silicate-analogous compounds because they have basic tetrahedral units.
