Henning Lobin

Henning Lobin (born July 7, 1964 in Lüneburg ) is Director of the Leibniz Institute for the German Language in Mannheim and Professor of German Linguistics at the University of Mannheim .

Life

After school and high school at the Ernestinum Celle high school , Lobin studied German linguistics, philosophy and computer science at the Saarland University and at the University of Bonn . He received his doctorate in Bonn in 1991 and completed his habilitation in 1996 at Bielefeld University . From 1996 to 1999 he was a university lecturer in Bielefeld, from 1999 to 2018 professor at the Justus Liebig University in Giessen .

From 2002 to 2004 Lobin acted as Vice President of the Justus Liebig University in Giessen, from 2001 to 2007 as First Chairman of the Society for Linguistic Data Processing (GLDV, now GSCL ). From 2007 to 2016 he was Managing Director of the Center for Media and Interactivity at the Justus Liebig University in Giessen, after having been its founding director in 2001.

Lobin has been the spokesman for the research groups "Cultural Techniques and Their Medialization" and " Interactive Science - Internal Science Communication via Digital Media" since 2008 , and from 2012 to 2015 he headed a joint project for the annotated recording and georeferencing of early Holocaust and camp literature. From 2016 to 2018 he was a member of the scientific advisory board of the Institute for German Language , since 2016 an elected member of the "Linguistics" review board of the German Research Foundation and since 2017 a member of the research advisory board of the Science and Politics Foundation .

Since August 2018, Lobin has succeeded Ludwig Eichinger as director of the Institute for German Language (IDS) in Mannheim. The IDS is the central documentation and research center for German, as a jointly financed facility by the federal and state governments and a member of the Leibniz Association . At the same time, Lobin took over a professorship for German linguistics at the University of Mannheim . As director of the IDS, Lobin is a member of the Council for German Spelling , the Advisory Board for German Studies of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) and the Advisory Board for Language of the Goethe Institute .
