Hennig Paur was born on October 18, 1943 in the Dombrowa coal basin in what is now Poland. After attending school, he studied medicine in Bonn. From 1989 to 2010 he worked as a doctor in Remscheid. Since 2012 he has worked as a doctor in Wettingen , Switzerland.

He was married to Ingrid Paur, the pianist in his band.

Musical career / meaning

Paur was a self-taught musical artist . In 1973 he founded a trio in Remscheid (Henning Paur (tp), Jörg Reuter (cl), Norbert Schuster). The trio represented the core of the band, which initially appeared under the name "Henning Paur's New Orleans Band". It later renamed itself in reference to an ensemble of the Creole clarinetist Johnny Dodds in "Henning Paur's New Orleans Wanderers", who performed with guest soloists such as Chris Barber , Beryl Bryden , Papa Bue , Tyree Glenn or René Franc at home and abroad. According to the musical preferences of the bandleader, the ensemble style of classic New Orleans jazz, especially in the form of Joe “King” Oliver ’s Creole jazz band of the early 1920s, represented the musical model of the band. Jelly Roll Morton , the various ensembles , were also significant influences by Johnny Dodds, Clarence Williams and Tiny Parham . The musical models were not slavishly copied, but freely modeled, so that the band always had its own, unmistakable style. At times the band consisted mainly of students from the University of Bonn . Today the band members are mostly based in the Düsseldorf-Cologne-Bonn area. In the late 70s and early 80s the band was an integral part of the Bonn jazz scene and performed regularly as part of the "Bonn Summer" and the concert series of the Bonn Music School organized by Helmut Knieriem. In addition, the band completed engagements abroad (e.g. Breda Jazz Festival) and won numerous prizes. After adding more family members to the band (daughters Alina and Bastienne), the ensemble has been operating as "Henning Paur's (Power) Kreole" in recent years.
