from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Henning Pertiet (* 1965 in Hamburg ) is a boogie woogie and blues pianist whose influences range from Vince Weber , Meade Lux Lewis , Albert Ammons and Otis Spann to modern jazz pianists like Thelonious Monk . From 1993 to 1996 he was a permanent member of the Austrian Mojo Blues Band .

Live and act

At the age of 23, Henning first discovered the Boogie Woogie piano for himself; he was so enthusiastic about a record by Axel Zwingenberger that from then on he tried everything to become a boogie pianist.

Through the contact with the Hamburg music scene and the pianists Axel Zwingenberger, Jo Bohnsack , Joja Wendt and Gottfried Böttger (who was an uncle of Henning Pertiet) who lived there, he was able to learn the basics of this music directly from those he admired. At first he was a soloist and in a trio.

On Zwingenberger's recommendation, Henning came across the Mojo Blues Band from Vienna. In the summer of 1993 Henning Pertiet became a member of this formation and toured all of Europe as a band pianist for four years. During this time two albums were recorded (live and in the studio).

In April 1996 Henning released his first solo album (partly supported by the drummer of the Mojo Blues Band Peter Müller at the time). At the same time this album is the re-entry as a solo pianist; The second solo album followed in 1999.

He has performed in Germany, Austria and Switzerland together with Axel Zwingenberger, Vince Weber, Martin Pyrker , Abi Wallenstein , Henry Heggen, Jeanne Carroll, Jan Harrington, Little Willie Littlefield , Frank Muschalle , Tibor Grasser, BB & The Bluesshacks.

In 2003 the third CD production followed under his own name, this time supported by Berlin drummer Michael Maass: Boogie Woogie Live 2003 . Influences of newer styles of jazz or elements of rock music can be heard here for the first time . Since then, Pertiet has worked on the stylistic expansion of his music and has dealt intensively with modern jazz and classical music.

In May 2004 he founded a trio with piano, bass and drums; In December 2005 a representative excerpt of the repertoire was released on CD ("Boogie Woogie And Blues Variety"). In May 2006 the trio toured with Red Holloway as a guest (including appearances at the Ingolstadt Bluesfest and Birdland Hamburg). In the same year he founded the duo The Fabulous Boogie Duo with drummer Andreas Bock (previously a member of BB & The Blues Shacks ), with whom he released an album on Stormy Monday Records.

On January 27, 2012 the CD 'Masterpieces Vol. 1' was released - also on Stormy Monday Records. Start of a trilogy with blues, boogie woogie and related music styles.

In addition to playing blues & boogie woogie piano, Henning Pertiet plays electric bass, double bass, guitar, various keyboards and uses groove boxes and synthesizers in his studio project Teitreph .

Henning Pertiet has been playing freely improvised organ concerts on a regular basis since summer 2013 and he has released a CD with improvised organ music (recorded on the romantic organ in Verden Cathedral) for and with the record company ifo-classics.de; Accompanying this is a multi-page portrait of the organist Henning Pertiet in the 1/2015 issue of the magazine in Organ Journal (Schott Verlag).
