Henning Schöttke (born November 11, 1952 in Hamburg ) is a German comic artist, author and illustrator.

Life

As a teenager he drew comics, but originally wanted to be a musician. During his teaching degree (mathematics and music) he drew advertising slips for the copy shop where he worked, and was thus placed as a cartoonist for his first series in the magazine Segeln .

Together with his brother, Schöttke opened the Kiel scene pub Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch, named after a Welsh place, in 1981 and used it for comic exhibitions. This is how he came into contact with the Semmel Verlag in Kiel. There he published his first comic Latona . Shortly afterwards he invented the cat series Fleabus , which appeared in many scene newspapers. After being printed in the taz , the Rowohlt Verlag took notice and in 1986 published the cat comics as a book. Flohbus became the namesake for countless cats and even for a figure from Lindenstrasse .

In 1989 Schöttke created the characters Motte & Lazy, whose comics appear regularly in the textbooks of the tutoring organization Studienkreis . Since then he has illustrated well over 100 school books for this and other publishers. As early as 1997, in the early days of the Internet, he started the satirical web Imho.de, where his Boris Becker comic "Bin Ich Drin?", A satire on an AOL commercial, appeared in 1999. The comic became one of the first big junk mails and spread to the last corner of Germany within three days.

Henning Schöttke has also been active in literature since 2002. He wrote the scripts for several short films that have won awards at video festivals. For the Year of Mathematics , he published mathematical short stories in an anthology by Stories & Friends Verlag. Schöttke has been writing a heptalogy about the seven deadly sins since 2011, of which four novels have been published so far.
