Henning Schmidt-Semisch

Henning Schmidt-Semisch (* 1964 ) is a German sociologist and criminologist .

biography

Schmidt-Semisch studied sociology and Protestant theology at the Westphalian Wilhelms University in Münster and the University of Hamburg from 1984 to 1990 and graduated with a Magister Artium (major in sociology). He then completed the two-year postgraduate course to become a qualified criminologist at the University of Hamburg. He received his doctorate from the University of Bremen in 1994 and his habilitation in 2002 . He is a professor in the human and health sciences department at the University of Bremen.

His main research interests are addiction and drug policy research ( tobacco , alcohol , illegal drugs ); Sociology of social problems and health risks; Health promotion and prevention ; Prison and criminal policy research.

Schmidt-Semisch is one of the critical criminologists who fought for the decriminalization and legalization of heroin use in the 1980s and 1990s . He is a member of the Schildower Kreis , an expert network that argues against drug prohibition .
