Henri-Louis Wakker

Henri-Louis Wakker (born March 18, 1875 in Geneva ; † March 17, 1972 ibid) was a Swiss banker and real estate entrepreneur. He donated the Wakker Prize by inheritance .

Life

The son of a Swiss watchmaker attended high schools in Geneva and in southern Germany , where he learned German. After an apprenticeship as a banker , he was hired as a bank director in Cairo in 1905 . In 1911 he returned to Geneva, where he founded a real estate agency, which was initially dedicated to the sale of villas and the utilization of land. From 1929 he developed various housing developments in Eaux-Vives with the architects Maurice Braillard and Henry Vial. In 1955 he retired from business life. As a keen mountaineer, he was interested in the development of localities and small towns in Switzerland. After his death, he bequeathed the necessary foundation assets to the Swiss Homeland Security to award an annual prize to political communities that have dedicated themselves in a special way to the protection and development of their townscape .
