Henry Albert Charles Antoine Hartmann (born June 16, 1860 in Paris ; † January 1, 1952 ) was a French surgeon who, among other things, was the first to apply the two-stage colon segment resection.

Life

Hartmann completed his training in Paris in 1887 with a doctorate in medicine. He worked as a surgeon from 1892. In 1895 he became a lecturer and in 1909 he was appointed head of surgery at the Hôtel-Dieu de Paris , the famous Parisian hospital, where he held this post until 1930. Hartmann was a member of the Académie des sciences and the Académie nationale de médecine .

Works

He wrote numerous publications in various fields, such as B. on war injuries on shoulder - dislocations and gastrointestinal tumors. He is known for the two-stage colon segment resection, named after him, for colon cancer (colon cancer) and diverticulitis .
