Henri Cottez

Henri Cottez (* 1913 in the Jura department ; † December 27, 1999 in Paris ) was a French Hellenist, Romanist , poet and lexicographer .

life and work

Cottez was a student of the philosopher Alain at the Lycée Henri IV , then (together with Georges Pompidou and Léopold Sédar Senghor ) a graduate of the École normal supérieure and (after teaching in France, Greece and Morocco) Maître-assistant at the Sorbonne Nouvelle (Paris III). From 1954 (volume 3, published 1957) he worked for the Dictionnaire alphabétique et analogique de la langue française in six volumes by Paul Robert (known under the title "Grand Robert", 1953-1964, further editions 1985 and 2001) and the resulting derived dictionaries. In the nineties he worked intensively on the terminology of aquatic life (in the Comité National Français des Sciences Hydrologiques, CNFSH).
