Henri Gustave Delvigne
Henri Gustave Delvigne (born April 10, 1800 in Hamburg , † October 18, 1876 in Toulon ) was a French army officer and weapons developer. He revolutionized the technology of handguns .
Life
Delvigne developed the rifle into a weapon suitable for all infantry. Previously, its use was restricted to snipers and hunters , as loading a muzzle loader with a rifled barrel required the precisely fitting projectile required for this to be pushed down the entire barrel from the muzzle at great expense. Delvigne recognized that the bullet had to change its shape after it was introduced into the barrel and in 1826 developed a small powder chamber on which the (round) bullet rested and was widened with several powerful blows so that it followed the pulls.
When the July Revolution broke out, Delvigne resigned as captain of the French army.
