Henricus Hondius

Henricus Hondius II , also Hendrik Hondius the Younger , (* 1597 in Amsterdam ; † August 16, 1651 there ) was a Dutch engraver , cartographer and publisher .

Life

Hondius was the son of the famous cartographer Jodocus Hondius , who founded a cartographic company in Amsterdam. After Hendrik initially worked in his parents' business, he founded his own publishing house in his hometown in 1621. In 1641 he published a new edition of the Mercator-Hondius Atlas with modified Hondius maps.
