Henrik Becker-Christensen

Henrik Becker-Christensen (born February 11, 1950 in Vejle ) is a Danish historian with a research focus on the coexistence of minorities and majorities in the German-Danish border region. From 1998 to 2017 he was Consul General of the Kingdom of Denmark in Flensburg .

Life

Becker-Christensen studied at Aarhus University , where he received Cand.phil in 1974 . , as well as a master’s conference in history in 1977 . 1990 doctorate he attended the University of Odense for philosophiæ Doctor .

From 1976 to 1998 Becker-Christensen worked at the Institute for Border Region Research and was its director from 1992 to 1998. In this role, in 1994 he was commissioned by the State Chancellery in Copenhagen and the Federal Ministry of the Interior to write the main report for the establishment of the European Center for Minority Issues in Flensburg.

In 1998 he became Consul General of the Kingdom of Denmark in Flensburg, succeeding HP Clausen . He held this post until the end of August 2017. Becker-Christensen's unexpected dismissal was a result of the formation of the new government from Venstre , Det Konservative Folkeparti and Liberal Alliance in 2016. The previous Minister for Culture and Church Bertel Haarder was no longer to belong to the future cabinet. Instead, Prime Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen offered him the post of Danish Consul General in Flensburg, which Haarder accepted. However, when he learned that Becker-Christensen should vacate his post after 19 years, Haarder withdrew his consent to take over the post. Kim Andersen finally became the new consul general .

In August 2017 he was awarded the Order of Merit of the State of Schleswig-Holstein for his services to German-Danish cooperation and the State of Schleswig-Holstein .

Becker-Christensen has been an honorary professor at the Syddansk Universitet since 2000 .
