After a goal by Ulf Ottosson , the first leg was lost with a 1: 3 away defeat. Ottosson was also successful in the second leg before Berger scored the decisive 2-0 final score shortly before the end and thus shot the club into the first division according to the away goal rule .

In the 1993 season , Berger found himself in a relegation battle with Degerfors IF, but with two 2-1 successes the club prevailed in the relegation against IFK Hässleholm . In the same year he moved into the cup final with the team, in which Landskrona BoIS was defeated with a 3-0 final victory. He scored the first goal of the game. At the side of Jonas Granath , Daniel Tjernström and Milenko Vukcević , he was one of the regulars in the following seasons when the team was placed in the lower middle of the table.

At the beginning of 1997 Berger left his Swedish homeland and moved to Molde FK in the Tippeligaen . After only half a year, however, he returned to Sweden and joined the second division club IK Brage . He only stayed with this for a short time and moved to KB Karlskoga in 1998 . In 2000 he joined Degerfors IF again, the club meanwhile played again in third class. In 2003, the team missed promotion as runner-up in Division 2 Västra Svealand , the following year they won the promotion against Umeå FC as a season winner . Until 2007 he ran for the club alongside Shpetim Hasani , Markus Karlsson and Andreas Drugge in the Superettan , and was a regular player for long periods. After his contract was not renewed, he moved to the amateur club IFK Ölme .

Berger worked as a telecommunications technician for much of his active career. His father Göran Berger also played like Henrik Berger's son Emil in the Allsvenskan. His son was part of the Degerfors IF team for a while, and they played together in his last league game for Degerfors IF - the game was Emil's professional debut.
