Henry Black (politician, 1783)

Henry Black (born February 25, 1783 near Somerset , Pennsylvania , † November 28, 1841 there ) was an American politician . In 1841 he represented the state of Pennsylvania in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Henry Black attended public schools in his homeland and then worked in agriculture. Between 1816 and 1818 he was a member of the House of Representatives from Pennsylvania . In his home country he also worked as a justice of the peace. From 1820 to 1840 he was an associate judge in Somerset County . In the 1830s he joined the Whig Party , which was then founded .

After the death of MP Charles Ogle , Black was elected to the House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the by-election due in the 18th constituency of Pennsylvania , where he took up his new mandate on June 28, 1841. He was able to practice this for exactly five months until his death on November 28 of the same year. Henry Black was the father of Justice and Foreign Secretary Jeremiah S. Black (1810-1883). His grandson Chauncey Forward Black (1839-1904) became Lieutenant Governor of Pennsylvania.
