The River City operated for Wanganui Shipping in New Zealand's coastal service between 1951 and 1964. In 1964 the ship was sold to Holm Shipping Co Ltd in Wellington / New Zealand and renamed Holmbrae . When it turned out that the Holmbrae was unsuitable for its intended purpose, it was sold to Captain AR Rudsen in 1966 and renamed Paulmarkson . The Paulmarkson was brought to Port Vila / Vanuatu and used from there in copra trading and shuttle service between the islands. In 1969 the ship was sold to Comptoirs Francais des Nouvelles-Hebrides in Port Vila and continued to serve in the island service under the last name Henry Bonneaud (not Henri Bonneaud, as written in some sources) until around 1985/86.
The Henry Bonneaud as an artificial wreck
After the Henry Bonneaud did not receive any renewal of the ship class at the end of her service life, she was acquired in 1989 by Kevin Green from Aquamarine Diving, who sank her on December 19, 1989 at Bokissa Island, Luganville Bay, Vanuatu , as an artificial wreck. Today diving trips to Henry Bonneaud , which is about 40 meters deep, can be undertaken.
