Branded inscription by Henry Deringer, Philadelphia

Henry Deringer (junior) developed a small pistol in the early 19th century that became his most famous product, the Deringer, which was manufactured in Philadelphia from 1835 to 1868 . The American President Abraham Lincoln was murdered by the actor John Wilkes Booth on April 14, 1865 with one of these weapons .

Further developments and copies later led to the generic name Derringer for such pistols, which were mainly manufactured by other manufacturers. Later small cartridge weapons manufactured by the American arms industry are also known as Deringer or Derringer.
