Henry FewSmith

Henry FewSmith (* 1821 in Philadelphia , Pennsylvania ; † October 22, 1846 there ) was an American portrait , nudes and figure painter.

Life

FewSmith, son of the grain merchant Joseph FewSmith senior († 1860), studied painting with John Neagle at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts in Philadelphia. His friend from university Emanuel Leutze , who had traveled to Düsseldorf in 1841 in order to further develop himself at the Royal Prussian Art Academy , he followed to the Rhine in 1842. In 1843 Leutze created a portrait of his friend FewSmith, with whom he shared a room in Düsseldorf. FewSmith took private lessons from the history and portrait painter Karl Ferdinand Sohn . He stayed in Düsseldorf until around 1845. He also traveled to other European art centers: Munich , Paris and Rome . In the fall of 1846, shortly after his return from Europe, FewSmith died in his Philadelphia studio .
