Henry Fowler, 1st Viscount Wolverhampton
Henry Hartley Fowler, 1st Viscount Wolverhampton PC (born May 16, 1830 in Sunderland , † February 25, 1911 ), was a British politician ( Liberal Party ). Fowler held various ministerial posts between 1894 and 1920 as a member of several governments.

Fowler began his career as a lawyer in Wolverhampton , where he later rose to the office of mayor of the city. In 1880 he was elected to the House of Commons as the Liberal Party candidate for his hometown constituency. As a member of various governments held Fowler 1894-1910 various high political office: Between 1894 and 1895 he served in the Cabinet Rosebery as India Minister , between 1905 and 1908. as Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster (Cabinet Campbell-Bannerman ) and 1908 to 1910 as Lord President of the Council ( Asquith Cabinet ). In 1908 Fowler, who was at times in the British press as a candidate for the office of Prime Minister, was raised as Viscount Wolverhampton in the Peerage of the United Kingdom . A hereditary seat in the House of Lords was associated with the title .
In 1895 he was inducted into the Order of the Star of India (GCSI) as Knight Grand Commander .

Fowler had two daughters, Ellen Thorneycroft Fowler and Edith Henrietta Fowler , who distinguished themselves as writers, and a son Henry , who succeeded him as the bearer of the title Viscount Wolverhampton .
