Henry Hawtrey

Henry Courtenay Hawtrey (born June 29, 1882 in Southampton , † November 16, 1961 in Aldershot ) was a British athlete .

Hawtrey retired at the 1906 Olympic Intermediate Games in the 1500-meter run in the preliminary run. He won the 5-mile run in 26: 11.8 minutes.

Hawtrey was a member of the British Army from 1900 to 1934, served for many years in Africa and India and rose to brigadier . When war broke out in 1939, he returned to the army. In 1942 he finally retired.

While the Olympic Games from 1896 to 1904 did not run a distance between 1,500 meters and a marathon , the 1906 Intermediate Games and the 1908 Olympic Games hosted a 5-mile run, which corresponds to a metric distance of 8046.57 meters .
