Henry M. Hake

Henry Mendelssohn Hake (born January 30, 1892 in London , † April 4, 1951 ) was a British art historian .

Henry Hake attended Westminster School and studied at Trinity College , Cambridge . In 1914 he became an assistant in the British Museum's Department of Prints and Drawings . From 1915 he took part in the First World War as a lieutenant and returned to the British Museum in 1919. From 1927 until his death he was director of the National Portrait Gallery .

He was named Commander of the Order of the British Empire (1933), Officer of the Order of Saint John (1942) and Knight Bachelor (1947).
